STEPTOR -PLUS tablets is a combination of two cholesterol lowering drugs namely Atorvastatin or Fenofibrate.

Atorvastatin: Belongs to the class of drugs known as Statins. It prevents the body from making "bad" cholesterol i.e. LDL (low density lipoprotein). It works by inhibiting the HMG CoA (3-hydroxy-3methylglutaryl coenzyme A), an enzyme which is required by the liver to produce cholesterol) which slows down the production of cholesterol in the body to reduce the amount of cholesterol that may build up on the walls of the arteries or block the blood flow to the heart, brain & other parts of the body.

Fenofibrate: Belongs to the class of drugs known as Fibrates. It lowers the blood triglyceride levels by decreasing the production of the triglyceride-carrying particle i.e. VLDL (very-low-density lipoproteins) or by accelerating the removal of triglycerides from the blood.

Lowering the amount of cholesterol is essential to prevent the chances of heart diseases. It reduces the risk of various cardiovascular diseases such as heart attack, angina etc.
Atorvastatin works by lowering the LDL production, while Fenofibrate works by decreasing the production of triglyceride in the body. Both increase the levels of “good” cholesterol (HDL) & decrease the level of “bad” cholesterol (LDL).
